Give appreciated stock, mutual funds or ETFs

Donating securities you have held more than a year can be a tax-advantaged way to make a bigger gift. We will give your broker simple instructions for a smooth transfer.

Why give securities

  • Potential tax advantages. If you have held a security for more than one year, you may avoid capital gains tax and may be eligible for a charitable deduction. Consult your tax advisor.
  • Quick and secure. Most transfers complete within a few business days after your broker initiates them.
  • High impact. The full value of the transferred shares supports families and programs.

How it works

  1. Email us at [email protected] with the ticker symbol and approximate number of shares you intend to transfer.
  2. We reply with our brokerage details (DTC number, account number and receiving firm) and a quick confirmation form.
  3. Instruct your broker using the template below or their own form. Ask them to include your full name and contact information so we can identify your gift.
  4. We acknowledge your gift as soon as the shares settle.

Common questions

Which types of securities can I donate?
We generally accept publicly traded stocks, ETFs and many mutual funds. For mutual funds or closely held stock, please contact us first; they may need extra processing time.
Can I donate from an IRA?
IRA gifts typically require a Qualified Charitable Distribution. See the IRA charitable rollover page or email us for help.
How will my gift be valued?
We acknowledge the gift using the average of the high and low prices on the date the shares arrive in our account. Consult your tax advisor for your own documentation.
Will I receive a tax receipt?
Yes. Once the shares settle you will receive a written acknowledgment for your records.

Two ways to take the next step

For families

You are not alone in this.

If your child has Cloverleaf Syndrome or another craniofacial condition and the bills are piling up, tell us what is happening. We help where we can, and we will point you to people who can help with the rest.

For supporters

Every dollar reaches a family.

Nobody at the foundation is paid. Apart from minimal supplies and tax filing, every gift goes to families, hospitals, schools and books that change how children treat each other.
